Components of Environment: Biotic and Aibotic Components

Precipitation levels, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and wind interact with temperature to affect both the living and nonliving parts of an environment. Higher altitudes are cooler than lower altitudes due to differences in compressional heating. Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time and a given location. The atmosphere is a chaotic system, and small changes to one part of the system can grow to have large effects on the system as a whole.

  1. The Biosphere is that part of Lithosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere where life exists.
  2. Political factors define the legal and regulatory parameters in which an organisation operates.
  3. Human beings, air soil, land forms, flora and fauna, rivers, oceans and mountains must exist together in harmony.

The sustenance of humanity depends on the well-being of all the factors of the environment. The environment is prerequisite for continued existence of living organisms and non-living things, hence people must take care of the environment. It is a moral duty of the present generation to safeguard it so that it can also benefit future generations.

The three main elements of the environment are the lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere. The atmosphere is composed of gases including oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and others. The vast volume of water that makes up the majority of the earth’s surface is known as the hydrosphere.

Regulation of Climatic Conditions

In a nutshell business environment is the sum total of all the external factors beyond control of business that influence the business in a number of ways. In other words, it consists of two layers of macro level namely general and industry environments. Thus, the business environment is divided into general environment and industry environment.

Significance of Business Environment (With Examples)

While deciding the internal-external order of analysis, one should not lose sight of aspects that work well in one set of conditions and change colour in another set of circumstances. In its operational behaviour, an organization interacts with the various forces in its environment. It may be in terms of receiving inputs, returning outputs and using feedback to modify inputs and the transformation process. Moreover, the organization does not operate in a vacuum but must interact with its environment in order to function.

In actual practice, since both external and internal forces interact and impact organisational survival and growth, managers would do well to examine both sets of factors at the same time. The external environment reveals opportunities and threats and the internal environment consists of environment uncovers strengths and weaknesses. The biological component of the environment, as the name indicates, includes all living things. Animals, plants and microorganisms interact with the abiotic components, and these form various ecosystems.

Almost all big organisations across the world are facing the challenges of diversity. In India, and foreign countries majority of mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investments, joint ventures, etc., that have taken place involving multinational companies. (ii) A study of business environment is essential to take full advantage of opportunities for gain hidden in the business environment. Effects and influences from these “integration aspects” can be studied from two major perspectives – (a) countries’ external level — or systemic approach, and (b) domestic or internal conditions within nations — sub-systemic approach. After duly taking into consideration the dimensions of the environment, an organization is required to reassess its capacity to grow to meet the market demands. The organization must watch the speed and direction of change using HR development and management initiatives to prevent its disappearance.

“Globalisation in World Society” through the process of globalisation, the assumption is that more nations are depending on worldwide conditions in terms of communication, the international financial system, and trade. Therefore the world scenario is more integrated in international economic. Globalisation in the sense of connectivity in economic and cultural life across the world has been going for centuries.

Why Does the Environment Matter?

The hydrosphere is that part of the earth that contains water in either liquid or solid form. Water is covered through three fourth of the total area of the earth, which includes surface water as well as underground water. Air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, radioactive pollution are the different types of environmental pollution.

The degradation of the environment leads to the loss of biodiversity, affects human health, depletes ozone layer, loss for the tourism industry, and financial implications. The degradation of ecosystems and the changes in the global climate has resulted in the initiation of environmental ethics. Environmental ethics outlines the moral responsibilities of human beings and their respect towards the environment.

Internal environment factors are those factors, which are within an organization and impart strengths or cause weaknesses in management process. These forces are owners and shareholders, the governing board, employees, organization, culture, etc. The external environment consists of those factors that affect a firm from outside its organisational boundaries. Of course, the boundary that separates the organisation from its external environment is always not clear and precise. For example, shareholders are part of the organisation, but in another sense, they are part of its environment.

For example, environmental science is interested in studying and investigating the interaction of organisms with their environment and its outcomes. A branch of environmental science is ecology, which deals with the ecological interactions within ecosystems. In general, countries that have gained from globalization include Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and China. China’s markets and growing economic prowess have particularly been noticed.

It refers to the recent increase in the Earth’s average atmospheric temperature due to an increase in the levels of greenhouse gas (e.g., carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and fluorocarbon). The rise in their levels in the atmosphere is caused by human activities such as deforestation, carbon dioxide combustion, etc. Because of that, the Earth’s surface temperature became warmer, thus, the name. Global warming is said to increase the average temperature of the Earth’s surface that is enough to cause climatic change. Accordingly, the global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the last century.

Predictions indicate that rising sea levels could reach 3 feet worldwide by 2300 or sooner. One report stated that in your child’s lifetime, Miami, Florida, could be underwater.15 Large sections of Louisiana’s marshes separating the ocean from the coastline are submerging. Oil producers and other related corporations are being sued by that state, claiming that fossil fuel emissions have contributed to natural disasters such as climate change. Many new companies in the United States are already constructing buildings to withstand increasing flooding and predicted rising water levels. The atmosphere is the main factor in maintaining the balance of an ecosystem. The atmosphere is composed of a thin layer of gases that covers the Earth.
